UK: Eurostar chaos on 2015's hottest day as strike actions hit travellers
Eurostar travellers were hit with cancellations and long delays at London's St Pancras station after strike actions in Calais led to the closure of the Channel Tunnel, Tuesday. Striking workers from MyFerryLink set fires and caused huge disruption to the Eurostar service, blocking the Channel Tunnel. The protesters are acting in an attempt to prevent job cuts, after their company was procured by a Danish company DFDS in early June.
MyFerryLink's employees have been operating the ships for the last two years, but the contract with is supposed to end on July 1, when DFDS shall take over.
Around 400 workers could lose their jobs as a consequence, which has led SeaFrance to ask for a two month extension, giving it time to buy ships of its own and keep all employees on.
