Spain: Podemos' Iglesias slams Berlin IMF for "destroying" the European project
Podemos Secretary-General Pablo Iglesias joined a Podemos rally in Madrid on Saturday, cheering on Syriza representative Panayota Moniou as she took to the podium to denounce Brussels-led austerity.
Speaking at the event, Iglesias slammed Berlin, the International Monetary Fund and neoliberal governments including Spain's so-called People's Party for attempting to "destroy" the European project by advocating a "totalitarian" market.
The comments come as Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras announced a possible bailout referendum scheduled for July 5. It will go ahead providing the Hellenic Parliament ratifies the vote. The proposal requires 151 votes to pass. The Syriza-led coalition currently holds 162 seats.
