
Belgium: Stoltenberg expresses "regret" for NATO's bombing of Yugoslavia
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg expressed "regret" for the civilian casualties of NATO's 1999 bombing of targets in the former Yugoslavia, during a press conference on the second day of the NATO-Ukraine Commission meeting of defence ministers in Brussels, Thursday.
The secretary general explained that the purpose of the campaign was to "protect civilian lives" and went on to offer his condolences to the families and friends of the victims.
Taking place in Brussels on June 24 and 25, the defence ministers meeting is set to discuss top security topics such as national defence budgets and how to speed up the decision-making process within NATO. The Afghan and Ukrainian defence ministers are also attending the meeting as the organisation discusses support for both countries.
