Spain: Bull fatally shot at controversial Sanjuanes de Coria festival
' Sanjuanes de Coria', the festival where a bull gets teased by a crowd and eventually shot, took place on Wednesday, despite repeated criticism from animal rights activists.
During the 500 year old event, the old town is being turned into a bullring and the streets are lined with fences. Residents then tease the bull and try to get the animals attention, as it makes its way through the town. Eventually the bull is being killed; this year the animal was shot in the head at 10pm local time.
Previously activists and politicians have called for San Juanes de Coria to be banned, but the mayor, José Manuel Garcia Ballestero, defended the killing saying it is not more than just a tradition and will carry on for many years to come.
