Russia: Thousands of students celebrate graduation in St. Petersburg

More than 80,000 students gathered at St. Petersburg's Palace Square to celebrate their graduation, Saturday.

The celebration, called 'The Scarlet Sails', was organised by city authorities and cost 35 million rubles ($650,000). The event started with a concert featuring a variety of Russian pop-artists including Dima Bilan, Iowa, Nyusha and the rock band 'Splin'.

The highlight of the evening was a display involving 30,000 fireworks followed by the 'Tre Kronor' tall ship sailing under the scarlet sails along the Neva River towards the Winter Palace.
