Germany: 'Pope Francis a much better climate activist than Merkel' - Berlin protesters
Around a dozen of climate change activists staged a demonstration in front of the German Chancellery in Berlin on Thursday. Climate change activist Chris Methmann said that he believes Pope Francis to be a much better climate activist than German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
Protesters held placards with slogan such as "Preserve creation. Coal power off" and "God's laws are for all beings." One activist wore a mask of German Chancellor Angela Merkel and stood near a prop of a coal power plant with a globe on top.
The demonstration comes following the release of a 184-page encyclical by Pope Francis in which he called for swift and worldwide action on climate change.
