Poland: LGBT parade met with protest in Warsaw

Poland, Warsaw
June 13, 2015 at 04:37 GMT +00:00 · Published

A few hundred protesters tried to disturb an LGBT parade by throwing eggs at the participants in Warsaw on Saturday.

Police officers arrested the culprits and, thanks to a heavy security presence, clashes were avoided. The protest organisers The National-Radical Camp (ONR) believe the parade promotes "immoral behaviour" and endangers family values.

Not too long ago celebrating diversity proved to be a difficult undertaking for Warsaw’s LGBT community and their supporters after Poland’s former President Lech Kaczynski banned the parade in 2004 and 2005. Over 20,000 people attended the LGBT event when it was reinstated in 2006.
