Peru: 'Baguazo' protest rages in Lima on six-year anniversary
Hundreds of protesters marched through Lima on Friday, to pay tribute to those who died in clashes between natives, settlers and police during the Baguazo military intervention in Bagua in 2009.
Demonstrators took to the city centre, where dozens of riot police were deployed to keep crowds under control. The protest was organized by activist group Colectivo Dignidad.
On June 5 2009, the Garcia government declared a state of emergency in Bagua and staged a military intervention to stop protests, resulting in the deaths of 41 natives and 32 police.
