
Russia: FM Lavrov pledges support to Afghan FM Salahuddin
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met his Afghan counterpart Salahuddin Rabbani in Moscow, Thursday.
Sergei Lavrov praised the Afghan effort that has "managed to almost completely form a national unity government" in Kabul and reassured Rabbani of Moscow's support for the state. Moreover, Lavrov noted that Afghanistan could expect help "through various channels" as the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) member states have expressed their readiness to assist.
The current SCO conference finishes on Thursday after beginning on Wednesday, June 3. Founded in 1996, the transnational organisation currently comprises of China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
