
USA: Police dash-cam captures attempted self-immolation at gas station
Dash-cam footage published by the Austin Police Department shows the moment a man rushed inside his car and set it alight at a gas station in the south east of the city on Tuesday morning. The individual suffered burns and was taken to University Medical Center Brackenridge in serious condition. Two officers suffered from minor injuries too.
According to the police, the man called 911, warning officers of his intentions. When police officers arrived to the scene, the man old them "I think I'm going to set the car on fire." He proceeded to get into the car, which had apparently been soaked in flammable substance, and lit a lighter, causing the explosion. The force of the explosion forced him out of the car and the heat and pain caused him to scream. Police officers were able to remove him from the scene of danger.
The man is undergoing treatment at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio and is expected to be charged with felony arson.
