France: Western foreign policy leads to extremism and migrant crisis - Le Pen
The leader of France's National Front Marine Le Pen gave a press conference in Nanterre on Wednesday in which she discussed her recent visit to Egypt. Le Pen described Egypt as a "natural stabiliser of Libya," which she stated is "in chaos because of Western intervention." Le Pen warned that opposition to "Arab authoritarianism" is dangerous, as when the state is destabilised, the void is filled by extremism.
Le Pen accused Sarkozy and Hollande of focusing their foreign policies in economic profit and encouraging foreign interventions in countries such as Iraq, Syria and Libya, which - she claimed - have led to a "clash of civilizations." Le Pen linked the history of Western interventionism with the current migrant crisis in the Mediterranean. She insisted that a change in policy towards the Middle East could stem the tide of refugees and usher in an era of peaceful relations between North Africa, the Middle East and Europe.
During her visit to Cairo, Le Pen met Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab and the Grand Imam of top Sunni Muslim body Al-Azhar Ahmed El-Tayeb and discussed international terrorism, migration and security.
