Spain: Thousands celebrate with Giro d'Italia champ Alberto Contador

Spain, Pinto
June 2, 2015 at 05:18 GMT +00:00 · Published

Thousands of people celebrated Alberto Contador’s ‘Giro d’Italia’ victory in his hometown, Pinto, South of Madrid, on Monday. The Professional Cyclist stated that his ‘victory was down to a lot of hard work’ and that now he is already preparing for the ‘Tour de France’ in one month’s time.

Contador, the star rider of the Danish-Russian UCI Proteam; Tinkoff-Saxo, already has 9 cycling Grand Tours (Tour de France, Giro d’Italia, Vuelta a Espana) victories to his name. His latest success was on Sunday, when he won Giro d’Italia for the 3rd time, making him the most successful Spanish Cyclist of all time.

Since he first won the ‘Tour de France’ in 2007, the cyclist has celebrated all of his major victories in Pinto, saying that the ‘reception he receives gives him an enormous emotion.’

Despite his many successes Contador has faced controversy. In 2011 he was stripped of his ‘Giro d’Italia’ victory by the Court of Arbitration for Sport, after he was found guilty of accidentally ingesting the banned doping product Clenbuterol.

Contador will start the preparation process for the ‘Tour de France’ which will start on 4 July 2015 in Utrecht, Netherlands and as usually will end up in Paris on July 26.
