Russia: Putin visits young victims of the Ukraine conflict at Moscow hospital

Russian President Vladimir Putin paid a visit to a Moscow hospital, Monday where children injured in the war in eastern Ukraine are receiving treatment. The Russian head of state met with the young patients on International Children's Day. The patients are receiving specialist medical care at the Emergency Children’s Surgery and Traumatology Research Institute in the Russian capital.

While Putin was speaking with the children a boy from Lugansk who is receiving treatment for a broken arm presented the president with a flower that he had made from yellow paper. The mother of Vayna, a young boy injured in Donbass, told Putin that if her son had remained in Donetsk he would have lost both of his legs. Because of the professional treatment in Moscow it seems likely the boy's legs will be saved.

Aside from those from the conflict zone in Ukraine, Putin also spoke with a child from Russia, Nikita, who was hit by a train and suffered a traumatic brain injury. The Russian president asked Nikita what had happened and heard that the boy had received the injuries while returning from judo training. After hearing the boy's story the president, a keen judo fighter himself, urged the young patient to be more cautious in future.
