
Russia: Black Sea Fleet's flagship Moskva heads for the Med
The flagship of the Black Sea Fleet, Moskva, left Sevastopol on Monday and headed for the Mediterranean Sea.
It is expected that by Tuesday, it will have passed through the Dardanelles and Bosphorus straits to join the Russian Naval permanent deployment on the Med.
The Moskva Missile Cruiser is the class leader of the Slava class warships. Running up to 32.5 knots (30 knot sustained) at its maximum speed, the Moskva can operate with a range of 8,070 nautical miles at 18 knots or 2,200 nautical miles at 32 knots. It also comes equipped with 16 P-500 Bazalt Surface to Surface Missile (SSM) canisters with 4K80 missiles. Featuring eight cylinders, each carries eight Fort (SA-N-6) Surface to Air (SAM) missiles.
