Chile: Police fire water cannon at high-schoolers as Santiago erupts in violence
Riot police fired water cannon and detained several high school protesters in Santiago, Thursday, after officers and demonstrators clashed during an unauthorised student rally.
The demonstration, organised by the Coordinated Assembly of Secondary Students (ACES), was called to decry what protesters see as political repression and police brutality, after student Rodrigo Aviles was injured by police water cannon on May 21.
At least three protesters were arrested. Demonstrators discovered that one man who joined the rally to be in possession of a gun, he was stopped by the protesters and handed over to the police.
