Russia: Armed Syrian opposition supported by Washington may join ISIS - Lavrov
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov criticised the position of the US towards the armed opposition within Syria, as he held a joint press conference with his counterpart from United Arab Emirates Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, in Moscow, Thursday.
Lavrov said Russia considered approach of Washington, which supports the so-called "moderate opposition" against Assad's government, as short-sighted. Lavrov expressed his fear that the opposition fighters in Syria, who received financial and military support by foreign instructors, might join terrorist groups like IS (formerly ISIS/ISIL) either for financial or ideological reasons.
