      USA: Hundreds protest shooting of two unarmed men by police officer in Washington

      Hundreds of protesters gathered in Olympia, Washington, on Thursday, to condemn the shooting of two African-American, unarmed men by a white police officer the previous night.

      The men, 21 year old Bryson Chaplin and 24 year old Andre Thompson, are currently in hospital after both of them were reportedly shot in the chest by Officer Ryan Donald. One of them is said to be stable but the other is in critical condition. Reports suggest that Donald confronted Chaplin and Thompson when supermarket employees called the police because two men had attempted to steal beer. The suspects allegedly assaulted the officer with a skateboard as he made contact with them. Shortly after, gunfire was heard from inside the patrol vehicle and additional shots were fired outside of the car. Donald has since been placed on administrative leave.

      Protesters believe that the shooting is race related and connected the incident to similar incidents occurring across the country, such as the killing of Freddie Gray in Baltimore and the shooting of Michal Brown in Ferguson.
