Russia: PM Medvedev meets with Iraqi PM Haider al-Abadi to discuss bilateral relations
Russian Prime Minister Dmitri Medvedev said that despite the "dramatic events of recent years" and the "difficulties the Iraqi people are going through," Russian-Iraqi relations are "on the rise," during a meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi in Moscow on Thursday.
It is the first time that al-Abadi had visited the Russian capital on an official trip and after thanking Medvedev for the reception, the Iraqi prime minister stated that his country "highly values" its relations with Russia. The Iraqi premier added that he and his delegation came to Moscow despite "advice to give up this visit".
Al-Abadi also stated that he hopes Iraq will be able to develop cooperation with Russia "along all lines including military-technical cooperation, economic cooperation and in the oil and gas sphere".
