Macedonia: Anti-gov protesters face-off against riot police in Skopje
Protesters faced off against riot police as anti-government demonstrations continued in Skopje, Friday. Despite the heavily armoured police, protesters remained peaceful, raising their hands above their heads in a gesture quickly becoming associated with the movement.
The protests continue to engulf the city after opposition leader Zoran Zaev accused the country's leadership of covering up the 2011 police killing of 21-year-old Martin Neskovski. Neskovski was filmed being beaten to death by police during election victory celebrations in Skopje for the political party VMRO-DPMNE.
Macedonian Interior Minister Gordana Jankuloska has dismissed Zaev's allegations, accusing him of manipulating the facts for political gain.
