
Austria: President Fischer salutes Red Army veterans for Victory Day
Russian diplomats and World War II veterans joined Austrian President Heinz Fischer and other senior officials at Zentralfriedhof cemetery in Vienna, Friday, to commemorate those who died during WWII ahead of Saturday's Victory Day celebrations.
Along with Austrian Defence Minister Gerald Klug, Fischer met with a Russian veteran and Russian ambassador to Austria Sergej Netschajew before paying his respects at the memorial. After laying a wreath, the officials departed.
Hundreds of commemorative services will take place throughout Europe from Friday to Saturday for the 70th anniversary of World War II's Victory Day.
