Rescuers on Thursday salvaged a 15-year-old boy from the debris of a building in Kathmandu that had collapsed due to the 7.9-magnitude earthquake that struck Nepal last Saturday.

The boy, named Pmba Lama, was stretchered off and then taken to a nearby field hospital. He allegedly survived by extracting and drinking the water from wet clothes and eating pieces of clarified butter.

Saturday's severe 7.9-magnitude earthquake, centred between Kathmandu and Pokhara and triggering numerous aftershocks and avalanches on Mount Everest has so far claimed the lives of at least 5,500 people across Nepal, leaving many more injured.
