USA: Orioles face White Sox in empty stadium, first in MLB history
Baltimore Orioles faced Chicago White Sox with no public allowed inside, except media, at the Camden Yards stadium in Baltimore, Wednesday. It is the first game ever played without fans in the whole history of US Major League Baseball. Dozens of fans gathered around the stadium to see the match through the gaps in the fences.
Violence broke out on Monday April 27, just hours after the funeral of 25-year-old Freddie Gray, who died in police custody on April 19, 2015. Gray's family say he suffered a severe spinal injury, that his voice box was crushed and his neck was snapped before he went into a coma and died. Police reports indicate that these injuries were sustained after his arrest.
Reacting to the heavy unrest Baltimore authorities declared a state-of-emergency, calling in the National Guard, who and imposing a week-long curfew on the city.
