One of the UK's 'most wanted' fugitives Paul Monk was arrested in Alicante, Tuesday, on alleged drug trafficking charges after the Spanish Civil Guard stormed his luxury four-bedroom villa. Monk was to be extradited to the UK to face his charges but Spanish police delayed the process as they are now investigating the fifty-four-year-old fugitive over the murder of British man Francis Brennan, who was found dead on Zenia Beach in Orihuela in March 2014.

Monk is wanted by Spanish police for his alleged role in the kidnapping and murder of 25 year-old Brennan, who was also on the run from UK police when his tortured body washed up on Zenia beach in Costa Blanca. Monk was named in the Crimestoppers’ ten most wanted Operation Captura fugitives. Operation Captura is a joint UK-Spanish campaign targeting British fugitives believed to be in hiding in Spain.

During the search of Monk's villa, Spanish police found an imitation firearm, a silencer and €125,000 ($133,000) in cash.
