Russia: Putin urges Kiev to implement the Minsk agreement
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko made a "tremendous mistake" in the way he approached the conflict in eastern Ukraine, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in Moscow on Thursday, before urging the central Ukrainian government to implement the Minsk agreement.
Speaking at an annual live question-and-answer session at the Gostiny Dvor (Merchant Yard), Putin said Kiev authorities had carried out repeated hostile actions in Donbass, and had not fully implemented the Minsk agreement. He said that it was not up to Russia "to impose a way of behaviour upon Ukraine" but added that it can exercise its "right to draw attention" to the situation.
A record number of over 3 million calls and text messages have been sent in for this year's annual "Direct Line" with the Russian president, in which he has addressed a range of issues including the Ukrainian conflict, sanctions imposed on Russia and the country's economy.
