Writer and journalist Oles Buzina was killed outside his apartment at around 13.20 local time (11.20 GMT) in Kiev, Thursday. Police, ambulance staff and members of the press could be seen in the area outside the apartment where Buzina's body lay and was being inspected by officials.
Anton Gerashchenko, a Ukrainian Interior Ministry spokesperson, confirmed the incident as a 'murder.' It is believed that Buzina was shot four times, once in the head, from a blue Ford Focus, which reportedly had foreign number plates - with early reports stating they were Lithuanian.
Oles Buzina was a former editor-in-chief of the Segodnya newspaper and was also well known for his authorship of the books "Vampire Taras Shevchenko" and "The Union of Plough and Trident."
