Russia: EMERCOM transport Siberian wildfire victims to Moscow for treatment
The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM) used a specially modified medical airplane to transport four people, who were injured in the wildfires that have spread across southeast Siberia, from Krasnoyarsk to Moscow, Thursday. The injured parties were transported to Moscow under the supervision of Russian surgeon Andrey Alekseev. They will be treated in the Vishnevsky Institute for their injuries.
The fires, which started in the Republic of Khakassia when local farmers began burning the grass in their fields, have left at least 30 people dead, 6000 people homeless and more than 1500 homes destroyed. EMERCOM reports that more than 6,700 people are involved in combating the wildfires, including firefighters, military personnel and volunteers.
