USA: McDonald's shutdown as construction workers join fight for living wage
Construction unions officially joined fast food workers' fight for a living wage, marching on the McDonald's on New York's 6th Avenue and briefly shutting it down from inside the branch, Saturday.
Hardhats in hand, hundreds of union and non-union construction workers converged at the fast food restaurant, calling for jobs that strengthen the economy for everybody. Together with fast food employees, airport staff, home health care aides and adjunct professors, they demanded $15 (€13.8) an hour wages and union rights.
The action was part of a series of events leading up to the National Day of Action on April 15, when over 100,000 working people are expected to come together in 200 cities across the US to demand higher wages and the right to unionise. No arrests were made during the protest.
