Latvia: NATO troops shoot Howitzers as part of 'Summer Shield' drills
The final day of NATO's 'Summer Shield' drills kicked-off at Camp Adazi in Latvia, Tuesday, with soldiers employing heavy artillery, including the M777 Howitzer 155 mm artillery pieces.
The stated objective of the NATO drills was to better integrate command and control of NATO's disparate forces in co-ordinating fire support for infantry troops. The first half of the exercises were devoted to theoretical and practical drills, with the second half focussed on day and night tactical manoeuvres in the field.
The Summer Shield drills were previously an annual Latvian military drill, until they were opened up to include NATO troops last year.
