Turkey: Did a terror attack cause Turkey's biggest blackout in 15 years?
A complete blackout brought Istanbul to a halt, Tuesday, with at least 44 provinces of Turkey also being hit by the biggest power cut in the country for 15 years, causing authorities to investigate a possible terror attack against the country.
Public transport was brought to a standstill as trains and metro stations were closed down and even street traffic lights were affected.
Turkish officials stated that a technical problem in the system of the Turkish Electricity Conduction Company (TEIAS) had led to the blackout at approximately 10:36 local time (07:36 GMT), affecting more than 20 million people across the country.
Turkey's Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has confirmed that all possibilities, including a terror attack, are being investigated as the cause for the blackout, while Turkey's Energy Minister Taner Yildiz is reported to have stated that power failure was not the cause, implying that a cyber-attack may be a possible cause.
