Italy: Eight arrested and two injured in Turin clashes

Eight people were arrested and two others left injured when clashes erupted between police and demonstrators during a protest against the Lega Nord (Northern League) in Turin, Saturday.

The injuries of the protesters have not been specified, but one man was said to be conscious and an ambulance was called for. The other injured party was believed to have only sustained mild injuries.

The Lega Nord leader Matteo Salvini was set to give an address from a stage at the Piazza Solferino. The protesters were awaiting the arrival of Salvini near to the Piazza Solferino, on Via XX Settembre, when the clashes broke out with the police. Police charged the protesters and fired tear gas. The protesters responded by throwing missiles at the police, including fire crackers.
