Cyprus: Fury outside parliament as Laiki depositors demand recovery of assets
A protest organised by former Laiki depositors got heated with protesters shouting at police officers and police officers shoving protesters, outside Parliament, in Nicosia on Thursday. The protest followed protesters handing a petition with 20,000 signatures to parliamentarians requesting the total recovery of assets lost by depositors in the 2013 crisis.
The protesters accused the lender's administration of having failed to recover assets and demanded control of the Laiki legacy.
Uninsured Laiki depositors lost their funds in 2013 when the government shut down Cyprus' second largest bank as part of an international bailout plan for Cyprus.
