Filip Dewinter and Jan Penris, members of the Federal Parliament, and Anke Van Dermeersch (Flemish Parliament), were accompanied by Marco Santi, president of the party 'Democratie nationale.' Dewinter said he had a one-hour conversation with Assad, who he called 'a courageous and impressive man' in a twitter message.
On February 25, four member of the French Parliament also visited the Syrian leader, saying they had a "personal mission."
