
Kazakhstan: Proton-M successfully launches Express-AM7 satellite
A Russian Proton-M rocket successfully launched the Express-AM7 satellite from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan at 22:05 GMT on Wednesday.
The Proton-M is carrying the communication satellite for several hours until it reaches a geostationary orbit at an altitude of 36,000km (22,300 miles). From this position the Express-AM7 will provide television and radio broadcasting services, broadband Internet access, and support multimedia and data links across Russia and neighboring countries.
The Express-AM7 has a life span of up to 15 years, weighs 5,712kg (12592.8 pounds) and has a 24 C-band, 36 Ku-band and 2 L-band transponders.
