
Russia: Drone captures Novodevichy Convent blaze aftermath
Following the enormous blaze that heavily damaged the iconic Novodevichy Convent in the heart of Moscow on Sunday 15, drone footage captured aerial footage of the building’s burned out bell-tower on Monday.
Firefighters were quick to the scene on Sunday evening as the blaze spread to the top of Novodevichy Convent’s tower, which is currently encased in scaffolding due to ongoing restoration work. The cause of the blaze remains unknown.
The Novodevichy Convent is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, located close to the Kremlin. It is also known as the Novodevichy Convent or the the Bogoroditse-Smolensky Monastery. The site is also well known for its cemetery where numerous prominent persons have been buried, including writer Anton Chekhov, composer Sergei Prokofiev, and former Russian leaders Nikita Khrushchev and Boris Yeltsin.
