
USA: Harrison Ford 'seriously injured' in LA plane crash
US actor Harrison Ford has been injured in a plane crash in Los Angeles on Thursday. The vintage World War II trainer plane - a 1942 Ryan Aeronautical ST3KR - crashed in the grounds of a golf course near to the Santa Monica Municipal Airport at around 14.20 local time (22.20 GMT).
Reports indicate that Ford was piloting the vintage aircraft and was treated by two doctors who happened to be at the golf course at the time of the incident. Emergency services arrived soon after and have taken the actor to the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Centre.
It has been reported that his injuries are 'serious' and may include a laceration to the head and several fractures.
Built by the Ryan Aeronautical Company, Ryan Aeronautical ST-A series aircraft were built for sports and military training purposes. ST-A series aircraft have a top speed of 126 mph (203 km/h) and a range of 366 miles (589 km). They were used for training purposes by the United States Army Air Force and the Royal Australian Air Force, among others.
