Russia: Putin touts cultural ties with Italy as tourism flourishes
Russian President Vladimir Putin praised the high levels of tourism between Italy and Russia during a joint presser with Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi in Moscow, Thursday.
The Russian leader touted the fact that an estimated 900,000 Russian tourists had visited Italy last year, bringing up to one billion USD into the country. He went on to stress the importance of Italy and Russia's Cross-Year of Tourism project in 2014, which saw 70 events in Italy alone, as well as a vast array of activities in Russia including tours of the Maly Theatre and concerts by Russian National Orchestra.
President Putin added that social and business contacts between the two countries were very active and effective as well as being multi-faceted. Putin's comments followed talks with the Italian Prime Minister who was in Moscow to discuss EU-Russian relations and bilateral ties.
