Russia: Putin says Ukraine crisis a product of 'extreme militant nationalism'
Extremism, intolerance, nationalism and aggression are what led to the current situation in Ukraine, President Vladimir Putin said in Moscow Wednesday.
Speaking at a meeting of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Putin said that Ukraine is an example and a warning of what can happen when these forces are acting without limits. Putin added that eight extremist organisations were closed down while new penalties for extremist practices were added to the criminal code.
According to the Russian leader extremists have become more sophisticated through the use of the internet and modern technology. "We see attempts to use so-called 'colour revolution technology', ranging from organising unlawful public protests to open propaganda of hatred and enmity in social networks."
