Turkey: Bloody clashes erupt once again between militant student factions
Around 46 people were arrested when clashes erupted between rival student groups at Ankara University's Faculty of Language, Thursday. Among the injured was a security guard, reportedly shot with his own firearm. At this time it is not known if he mistakenly shot himself or the gun was fired by someone else.
Teams from Ankara Police Department's homicide unit, counter-terrorism bureau and crime scene investigation department have been dispatched to the university. Dozens of police officers have also been assigned to the campus to bolster security.
The incident comes on the heels of the killing of a nationalist student at another university in a similar clash. Fırat Yılmaz Cakıroglu was killed during a fight between supporters of the opposition Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) and the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) at Izmir-based Ege University last week.
