The aftermath of the fierce battle of Debaltsevo could well be seen in the nearby village of Chernukhino Wednesday, a few days after Lugansk People's Republic forces (LNR/LPR) took control of the area. LNR forces are reportedly demining the area and restoring the infrastructure.

Located 5 km (3.1 miles) from Debaltsevo, Chernukhino is devastated with bodies of Ukrainian soldiers that were killed in combat still lying in the trenches and destroyed military hardware being left abandoned all around the place.

Local residents are currently struggling with a lack of electricity, heat and water after the Ukrainian forces officially withdrew from the area on February 18.
