
Russia: Anti-terror operation in Dagestan, three reported dead
Russian security forces held a a special operation against a group of suspected militants in the Republic of Dagestan, Wednesday.
The anti-terrorist operation was launched in the early morning after a group of militants had been discovered hiding in a forested area of the republic's Kizilyurt district.
Sources in Russian Interior Ministry said that at least three militants, among them leader of the group Oleg Shalyapin, were killed by security forces in a return fire, after the surrounded militants refused to surrender and opened fire. Initial information indicated that there were ten militants spotted in the area. Some of the militants attempted to flee. The operation is still under way.
The gang is suspected of having carried out a series of robberies and attacks on police officers.
