Germany: Protesters chant 'Nazis out' at TORCH-LIT Dresden bombing rally

Germany, Wunsiedel

Members of the group 'Der Dritte Weg' ('The Third Way') marched through Wunsiedel to commemorate the victims of the bombing of Dresden in WWII, Saturday.

The participants met up at the main bus station in Wunsiedel and marched under the motto "A light for Dresden," carrying torches and banners condemning the bombing of the city by allied forces on February 13, 1945. A demo against the "Dritte Weg" march, called "colourful Wunsiedel," took place simultaneously. Protesters wore fancy dress outfits, blew whistles and chanted “Nazis out.” No clashes between the two opposing parties have been reported.

The official event, commemorating the killing of an estimated 25,000 people in 37 hours, was held in Dresden the previous day. German President Joachim Gauck attended the event and said that the victims of the bombing should not be used "as prey for some ideology."
