Ukraine: INTENSE shelling hits Donetsk two days before Minsk ceasefire kicks in
Residents of Donetsk had to endure another night of heavy shelling with a number of districts hit by rockets and artillery, overnight Friday.
The bombardment of the much-battered Kievskiy District started at 03:00 local time. Buildings were damaged but no casualties have been reported as residents took shelter in basements. A fire broke out in the same district when a factory was hit, which was later brought under control by emergency crews.
On Thursday Russian President Vladimir Putin, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Francois Hollande and Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko agreed on the terms of a ceasefire to be introduced on February 15. The peace agreement involves the removal of heavy weapons from conflict zones and the creation of a 'demilitarised' buffer zone.
