Belgium: 'The delay to ceasefire led to rebel offensive operation' - Poroshenko
As soon as the Ukraine ceasefire deal was signed, rebels in east Ukraine "started an offensive operation," the Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko alleged at a press conference alongside Donald Tusk, the president of the European Council in Brussels on Thursday. Tusk invited Poroshenko on a 'informal' basis.
Poroshenko stated that his wish was for an immediate ceasefire, but that negotiations led him to accept a delay of 70 hours. He emphasised that he wants Europe to put pressure on all parties to keep the promises.
Earlier Thursday a peace deal was agreed over the conflict in eastern Ukraine after Russian President Vladimir Putin, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Francois Hollande, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko and Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko agreed to a ceasefire to be introduced on February 15.
