Mexico: 61 rotting bodies found in abandoned Acapulco crematorium *GRAPHIC*

Police found at least 61 bodies in an abandoned crematorium in Acapulco on Friday. One of the bodies may be that of a child, officials say.

Emergency services were summoned after locals near the Cayaco-Puerto Marques highway started smelling a foul odour coming from the crematorium. On finding the bodies, local police were followed to the location by soldiers from both the National Army and the National Gendarmerie. Officials have stated that an investigation in underway, but are yet to say how long the bodies have been at the site and explain the causes of death.

Acapulco is reportedly the most violent city in Mexico and the third most violent city in the world, according to The Citizen Council for Public Security and Criminal Justice AC (CCSPJP), with a homicide rate of 112.80 per 100,000 inhabitants.
