Belgium: Joe Biden arrives at EC for Ukraine talks
US Vice President Joe Biden met with European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker and Vice President and High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini at the EU Council building in Brussels on Friday to discuss the Ukrainian crisis.
Sharing handshakes before starting talks, the three officials focused on the topic of security and financial aid to Ukraine and furthering economic sanctions against Russia. The leaders were also set to discuss energy security, the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) and policies intended to promote economic growth, among other global issues. Before entering the meeting, Junker shared a handshake with Biden, before quipping to the press "You can go home now."
Biden is expected to travel to Munich later in the week to hold trilateral meetings with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and German Chancellor Angela Merkel. The meetings coincides with a Washington debate on the topic of whether the US will provide funding and weapons for Kiev’s military operations in the east of the country.
