Belgium: 'We want to re-correct the framework of the European Union' - Tsipras
"We want to re-correct this framework, not to smash this framework", said Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras whilst discussing the rules of the European Union at a press conference with EU President Martin Schulz in Brussels on Wednesday.
Tsipras stated that whilst a "viable agreement" can be found in the framework of the "rules of the European Union", it is still his party's goal to "respect the people's sovereignty in Greece and the clear mandate of our people".
Since his party Syriza won the Greek elections, Tsipras has been attempting to negotiate the alleviation of some of Greece's huge national debt, which currently exceeds €317 billion ($360 billion). Earlier on Wednesday the newly elected prime minister held meetings with the European Council President Donald Tusk and the European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker.
