India: Russian infant the youngest to have successful heart transplant in India
Two-year-old Russian boy Gleb Kudriavtsev from Moscow appeared in public for the first time Tuesday, in Chennai. Gleb became India's youngest patient to undergo a complex heart transplant operation. He was suffering from end-stage heart failure when he went under the knives of the Fort Malar Hospital's doctors for over eight hours on December 19 2014, when he weighed a mere 7kg (15.4lb).
The heart was reported to have been donated for use by the parents of a brain dead child from Bengaluru. The heart became available on December 18 and reached the Chennai hospital within one hour.
Gleb's mother Nelli Kudriavtceva is said to have previously looked into obtaining her son's treatment in Germany but German doctors refused to treat him due to his high lung pressure.
