Hungary: 'Budapest can only accept a peaceful solution to Ukraine conflict' - Orban
Hungary can only accept a peaceful solution to the conflict in eastern Ukraine, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said in Budapest on Monday.
Speaking at a joint presser with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Orban stressed the importance of a peaceful, stable Ukraine for Hungary. He explained that Ukraine is a neighbouring state and a gas transit country, and also that '200,000 Hungarians' are currently living on Ukrainian territory.
The press conference followed a meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel who arrived in Budapest, Monday to hold bilateral talks on EU policy and relations with Russia. It was Merkel's first visit to Hungary in over five years and comes before Russian President Vladimir Putin's scheduled meeting with Viktor Orban on February 17.
