USA: Chicago blanketed by RECORD-BREAKING blizzard
Blizzard conditions hit Chicago on Sunday, with more than 46 centimetres (18 inches) of snow falling in some areas, breaking the record for most snow in a 24-hour period. The snow caused dangerous driving conditions and power outages for tens of thousands of people, while others took to the hills with sleighs to make the most of the winter weather.
The heavy snow was accompanied by winds reaching 72 kilometres per hour (45 miles per hour) in some parts of the region. Roughly 2,000 flights were cancelled at O'Hare International Airport and Midway International Airport.
The National Weather Service has advised against all non-emergency travel, and Chicago's top tourist attractions are closed.
