Turkey: Cranes and trees blown down as storms BATTER Turkey
Large waves and strong winds caused chaos in western Turkey on Sunday, felling trees, ripping roofs and causing flooding as the country braces for even harsher weather in the coming days.
Due to the heavy storms with winds of up to 70 kilometres per hour (44 miles per hour), Turkish Airlines cancelled 229 flights, and sea transportation within the country has been shut down. In the Besiktas district of Istanbul, strong winds knocked down a number of trees, causing congestion as emergency services had to remove them from blocking roads.
The meteorological office is predicting harsher weather in the coming days lasting at least until Tuesday, with winds of up to 100 kilometres per hour (62 miles per hour) predicted.
